For decades, tetraplegic patients have been prescribed external condom or indwelling Foley catheters for bladder management since most were incapable of intermittent urinary self-catheterization. Suprapubic catheters were routinely placed. The dexterity required to open the package, lubricate the catheter, etc., was more than most could accomplish, particularly at higher injury levels.
A patented gripping handle outside the bag allows for easy advancement, making it easier for individuals with limited hand dexterity to self-catheterize.
Recently, MTG introduced the new MTG Eagle® Board, a reusable device that secures the penis and the catheter, enabling self-catheterization by men with very limited dexterity.
