The key advantages of the OPTION-vf catheter are derived from the main concept of using the body’s own bladder to store urine rather than a collection bag. When the bladder needs to be drained, the patient or caregiver merely activates a specially designed and patented valve that permits convenient draining in a manner very similar to normal voiding. Messy, cumbersome, and costly external tubing and urine collection bags are not necessary with the Practica device as compared to the Foley catheter system.

The OPTION-vf is designed to be very simple for physicians to employ while offering female patients greater comfort and mobility. This female version catheter, which utilizes OPTION-v ™ Series Catheter Technology, has several unique and inventive design features that result in many of its clinical advantages including:

• A patented integral drainage valve allows for controlled voiding and replaces continuous drainage with normal bladder cycling.


• A proprietary 5-10cc teardrop shaped balloon helps prevent leakage around the catheter shaft by blocking urine flow at the bladder neck.


• An adjustable retainer ring allows the length and fit of the catheter to be customized to each patient and, in combination with the balloon, provides both comfort and effectiveness.


• The elimination of the urine collection system removes the urine bag as a potential source of infection, and may reduce the occurrence of accidental balloon dislodgement and traction-related urinary system trauma caused by collection system accidents.
